are you a lover or a hater?

there's something about shopping...you either love it or hate it...regardless of which category you fall into...searching for new clothes and accessories can often be overwhelming...when you walk into a store and see racks upon racks of clothes...it's hard to know where to begin...let alone how to select a complete outfit...a confusing array of merchandise along with special store sales and markdowns can lead to impulse buying and disappointing purchases...

over the years...many women have shared with me why they dont like to shop...some are intimidated by the process...they're not sure what looks good on them...and they're terrified of making costly mistakes...others have busy lifestyles and resent the time they have to spend searching for new outfits...women in both these categories will put off shopping trips and settle day after day for the clothes and accessories they already own but which they know are holding them back from looking and feeling their personal best...

then there are the shopping fiends...they're the ones who can't wait to add more clothes to their wardrobes...i always get a kick when a client calls me...completely overwhelmed with their bursting-at-the-seams wardrobes yet can't wait to whip out their calendars to schedule an appointment with me at the mall...they're a bit disappointed when i suggest that we devote our first session together to sorting through their wardrobes...rather than adding to them...in the end...these same women are always greateful that we slowed down the process of acquiring new clothes and helped them first develop an organized approach to dressing well...they come to understand that the closet is where the magic of owning your personal style truly begins...

so...whether you are a shopaholic or a shopping neophyte...learn to avoid those shopping blunders that will cost you money and take up valuable space in your closet...

  1. I tend to over shop for my spring/summer clothes. I have no control over those pretty summer dresses. They are so irresistible to me. My taste in winter clothes tend to be more classic so I don't feel that excitement that comes with a new colorful Spring dress. Great post!

  2. I'm like Jennifer, there can never be too much pretty! I love shopping online, but your post has made me realise that I really don't enjoy shopping in person, for the most part. I hate malls, they are so soulless and exhausting, and when I actually 'need' something I can never find it and wind up buying something I'm not thrilled about. Spontaneous purchases seem to be my forte!

  3. thank you for your comments ladies...i "over-shopped" for years...buying countless pieces that i kinda liked...or better yet...it was on sale...only to end up with a closet jammed packed with clothes...and hearing myself say..."i have nothing to wear" the good thing...is i can relate to my clients...and know firsthand how wonderful it is to have a closet full of clothes that you love...and wear often...
