if you watch "what not to wear" the two most common phrases that are heard would be..."it's comfortable" and "it was on sale" - if i had a dime for how many times i have heard this line...well...i might just be retired =)
when going through closets...my goal is always to make the most of what the client has...first and foremost...i am not a believer of..."let's get rid of everything and start over"...although for a minority...that might be just what needs to take place...however...that being said...it amazes me how many times the justification for a purchase is "it was on sale"
sales shopping is a whole different ballgame...it must be the hunting instinct...but like dogs fighting to get the last scrap of meat...women turn into savages at the mention of a sale...
clothes you would not have given a second glance at full price...suddenly become desperately desirable when they go on sale...even more so when other women are just as desperate as you are...kinda like in the movies...when the dull boyfriend becomes adonis when another woman looks at him...fighting the blond in the corner for a pair of orange satin-lycra disco trousers becomes a matter of life or death...
the golden rule of sales shopping is to buy only what you would have considered buying at full price...don't just buy because it's cheap...
there is a reason clothes are on sale: not enough people wanted to buy them at full price...think about it...
sales clothes are more likely to be "fashion" or "trendy" pieces than classic pieces...watch out for stores trying to off-load years-old stock at sale time...
that being said...sales are also brilliant times to pick up classic designer clothes at good prices but you need to put your time in...go everywhere...keep your head...don't panic buy and be honest about whether clothes fit...look good...or are going to go out of fashion fast...
try not to let your genuine bargains be outweighed by your mistakes...otherwise you might as well have bought the one decent outfit...amongst the glitter, color and too-small fantasy-me clothes...for full price...
sales are good for buying clothes you need to buy...

Ah, who can resist a good sale? I think online sales are great. They help you to avoid the cat fights! I don't have the patience to actually go into a store and deal with that crap anymore.
ReplyDeletethe only reason i like to actually go into the stores...is to touch and feel the fabrics...
ReplyDeleteWhat great advice, the best "sale shopping" that I do is when frenchsole.co.uk email me to say that certain styles are on sale but it is a matter of ordering straight away as I think that most of the women in the UK wait for these emails to come out as well.
ReplyDeleteCannot believe that you also watched Coco avant Chanel last night, it is a small world.
