denim therapy...
my younger years...still living under my parent's roof...i was pretty much a tomboy...i lived in jeans & t-shirts...that is all i wore...everyday...and one of the things that i wanted in my jeans...more then anything...was that ripped at the knees look...but i wanted it to happen naturally (don't ask why...i was young)
so...faithfully i wore my favorite jeans...and as i wore them...i noticed...the threading starting to fray...the material getting thinner and thinner...and i knew...that it was just a matter of time...before my jeans would be exactly the way i wanted them...
then the rip started...in my left knee first...and then...well...i must have helped it along...because one day...while i was sitting in my room (actually kneeling) while picking up something or other...the teeny tiny frailed hole...ripped! just how i wanted them to look...needless to say...i was pretty happy about my favorite pair of jeans...now...even better...
so imagine my horror...a few days later...when i got home from school...and my lovely mamacita...had washed my jeans...and yes...patched up the holes on the knees of my jeans...
you see...my mom is a seamstress...alterations is her life...(slight exaggeration inserted here)...so what she thought she was lovingly fixing for me...my favorite pair of jeans...were now...in my eyes...ruined...
i have since gotten over that traumatic experience...and no longer have the desire to wear torn up jeans...although now...you see them everywhere...you can actually buy jeans...all ripped up and distressed...and yes...may i say...my mamacita still does not understand this...buying brand new jeans for $200 on up that are all ripped up...
although i don't personally have ripped up jeans now...i do know the feeling of having a favorite pair of jeans...that fits perfectly...and they are looking like they are on their last leg...for most people...jeans are a hard buy...you've got to try on a lot of pairs to find something "just right"...
well never fear..."denim therapy" is here...is there a poet in the making? =)
if anything...you've got to at least check out the before and after shots of the jeans...it is pretty remarkable...at $7/per inch...your jeans can look like new...they can even turn your favorite jeans into temporary maternity jeans...pretty fabulous...i'd say...

fashion funnies: "i feel good about me..."
"cathy" is always good for a laugh...this was in last weeks sunday paper...cathy is bathing suit shopping...such a fun activity...no?
saleswoman: welcome to the "i feel good about me" swimwear season!
saleswoman: plus-sized bikinis! abundant tanks! nice and roomy swim shorts and skirts!
saleswoman: real suits for the real bodies of real women!
saleswoman: this year every single one of us can face the swimsuits and say "i feel good about me!"
saleswoman: do you know why we can say "i feel good about me??"
cathy: because we're standing here fully clothed and the suits are way over there.
saleswoman: exactly, shall i ring one up that you can feel good about not putting on in the privacy of your own home?
quite the sales job...no?

arm candy...
statement jewelry is all the rage now...has been for some time...and that includes your wrists...the great thing about bracelets...is you can do so much with what you probably already have...the key is to pile them on...
bangles...don't just wear one...try putting two or three together...to change up your look a bit...and make it fun...mix the colors...
do you have some of those tennis bracelets in your jewelry box? how about putting them all on...to make one big statement...i have about four...if you remember...they are pretty thin...but together...they create quite the wow piece...
i've even done this with my diamond bracelets...where i used to wear one...i now combine them all...
if you've been perusing the fashion magazines...you will see that some have done this look on both arms...from wrist to elbow...that is a bit much for me...but i have to say...when i see it...i do love it...
my prior posts will reveal that my mixing and matching doesn't only happen in my clothing...but in my jewels...click here and here to see my vintage combinations...some other vintage pieces that are great for stacking are the bakelite bangles...look for them at the local flea markets...they come in the most amazing colors!
so how do you mix & match your bracelets? be sure to share and give others a new idea or two...

men's corner: going plaid...
even though i adore the summer weather...can't get enough of it...my mind is already so consumed with fall...so while most are just getting their hands wrapped around summer attire...i'm thinking fall...
a trend that is still looking strong for guys this fall (courtesy of gq magazine) is the plaid shirt...we've seen a lot of plaid this summer...but turning it into a fall favorite with darker colors is a great idea...you'll still look professional when you couple it with a solid, dark-colored tie...and it does double-duty in a more casual setting when worn with jeans and a blazer...
for starters...check out nordstrom...which has a nice selection of plaids for guys...especially now...with the anniversary sale going on...prices go back up afterwards!
doesn't jason sudeikis of "saturday night live" look fabulous wearing a plaid shirt and dark tie combo?
(we don't recommend the forehead stamp...as a rule...)

take a walk on the wild side...
i would have to say that one of the most frequently asked questions that i get...would have to be..."is animal print still in?"...um...yes...yes...and yes...i mean...let us put aside the fact that i consider it my neutral...if you look forward to the fall runway shows...animal print is here to stay...so...take a walk on the wild side...and pick your poison...
the wonderful thing about animal print...is that you really don't need a whole lot of it to make a statement...it could be a simple as...an animal print skinny belt to a "wow" pair of animal print shoes...
or maybe something in croc print? how fabulous is that??
or perhaps a handbag in zebra print?
whatever your choice is...if you haven't already done so...incorporate a little bit of the wild side into your wardrobe...it is a simple way to be a little bold...
but whatever you do...no head to toe coverage in animal print...meaning...don't do the animal print handbag that matches the shoes...that matches the belt...that matches the hat...remember...a little goes a long way...
what is your favorite animal print? and how do you incorporate it into your wardrobe?
