spring/summer 2012 trend: bright colors...

a big trend for this spring & summer season is bright colors...with my clients...i usually see it split down the middle...those who love bright colors...and those who don't...and truth be told...some just can't pull of the full on bright color look...

but...if you are wanting to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe...there are definately ways to bring it in full force...or in tiny bites...

so let's get started...

- bring in a pop of color in a fabulous flat (such as the one listed below) or a fun pair of wedges...

- how about a burst of color in a fun bright handbag?

- scarves - so many choices in bright colors...and a very easy way to adapt a bit of bright color...

- an arm full of fun colorful bangles...have fun with this...mix & match your favorite bright colors...

- sun dresses - oh the bright color choices...how about something in the color of the year? tangerine tango...

- add in a bright pop of color with the seasons colored jeans...so many colors to choose from...how can you stop at one?

- try out a new fun bright lipstick...go for a bold bright color on your toes...

as you can see...the ideas are limitless...you just decide how little or how bold you want to go...is this a trend you are trying out this year? share your ideas...

spring/summer 2012 trend: pleats

so many beautiful trends for spring/summer 2012...i thought i would start listing some of them for you...and show ways in which they could be incorporated into your wardrobe...

pleats...think accordian...and they are everywhere! the most common is a 50's inspired pleated skirt...and while that is a great way to incorporate it into your wardrobe...some women will shy away from it...as the hip area is the one place they are not looking to bring attention to...

here is a nice example of one...where the pleats start below the hips...so...emphasis is off the hips...

catherine malandrino pleated maxi skirt

a nice pleated design in a bathing suit...that little bit of extra detail...so lady like and feminine...

betsey johnson 'french pastry' skirted one piece swimsuit
nordstrom.com

a maxi dress is always a fun way to look put together...without really trying to hard...

but don't stop here...as you will find pleating in blouses...jackets...a clutch purse...shoes...all you need to decide is how little or how much pleating you want...

is this a trend you are thinking of trying?

following the trends just because...

so...are you wondering what the golden gate bridge has to do with my post? really...there is a connection... =)

today's fashion cycles are getting shorter and shorter...faster and faster...within every price range...there are more choices...more fads...and trends...that will come and go long before you can even redeem those membership reward points...women who get carried away by the constant "newness" in stores usually resort to bingeing...with little regard for what looks good on their bodies...or what styles go with the other pieces in their closets...

so what am i trying to say? don't be moved by such fashion distractions...don't let sales clerks dupe you into a garment that doesn't suit your taste...and more importantly...your figure...this means...you need to be crtain of what works on your body...you need to know what styles look terrific on you...and what type of pieces will show off those features whenever possible...by being brutally honest about what really works on your figure (remember...salespeople often work on commission)...you'll reflexively reject flash-in-the-pan fashion...

at any age...you'll want to acknowledge a fun or important seasonal look...just don't immerse yourself in the trend...seeing entire rafts of young and not-so-young women falling over themselves to catch the next trend...pink everything...cargo pants...bare midriffs...is just...well...too much...

instead...pick one or two current pieces that make sense within the context of what you already own...any faddish items you choose to own should pass a crucial price tag test...six-hundred dollar beaded flip-flops and two-thousand dollar floral bags may look swell...but such indulgences are likely to stay on your credit card bill far longer than they linger in the magazines...go for a less expensive non-designer rendition instead...spending the real money on items such as coats...dresses...jackets...or other pices that can be pressed into service every day...and are less likely to turn heads as "last year's" look...

so...the beautiful golden gate bridge...one of the the most beautiful sites to behold in our lovely city...when i was younger...and i was coveting something...there was always something...right? the words that would come out of my mouth...to my mamacita...would be..."but so-and so has it"...(believe me...my negotiating & debate skills are much better now)...to which she would "always"...yes always...reply..."if so-and-so jumped off the bridge...would you follow them?"

now...seriously...mamacita...of course not...but i have to laugh...because...it was really through that...that i started on my journey of becoming...and being my unique self...and not wearing what "so-and-so was wearing" but creating something that was "my own"...

fashion funnies: girls nite out for maxine...

my girlfriend posted this on facebook this last week...and now i'm thinking...how appropriate...since my blog post yesterday was about a new summer trend...going bra-less...and...i'm heading out for a girls weekend in monterey/carmel...

whatever you are doing...have a fabulous weekend...but please...don't forget your bra...

new summer trend...going bra-less

as i've always said...not every trend is for every person...but...could there be a trend that is not for any person?

going bra-less is a tough call...i believe...in my humble opinion that there are very few women that can really pull this off...and it still look...well...presentable...

i would love to hear your thoughts on this one...as an article in the new york times surfaced...with the title..."new summer trend...going bra-less..."

can i have an olive with that?

although black will never really go away...there are definately some new neutrals coming in strong for fall this year...so what will you be sporting?

what is the new black this season? is it grey? yes! but it is also camel...even better if worn together...grey & camel...such a beautiful combination...i have some clients that can't wear these colors around their face..but that is ok...and still doable...when these colors wash you out...or just aren't the colors that are best suited for you...then opt for these colors in your pants or skirts, shoes, belts...if you are able to wear them around your face...do it up in scarves, jackets etc...

another biggie this season is olive green...think army green (one of my personal favorites...i have to admit) although this color tends to have a more casual vibe...there are ways to dress it up...and being that this color is big this season...we will probably be seeing it in blouses & dresses...jackets...handbags...be still my heart... =)

so...since military fashion is sure to dominate this fall...will it invade your closet?

guest post: 6 fall trends for 2010...

by adena ditonno (my good friend & business partner) & owner of adenadesign...

Yes, we’ve just experienced the Mark Twain-attributed quote “The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco”, and many of us are looking forward to the warmer days of September and October. However, in the fashion world, Fall is here. If you haven’t thought about Fall yet, now would be a good time to think about packing away your summer clothes and preparing your closet for the coming season.

Fall Trend #1: Camel and Gray Neutrals. While many of us have a closet full of black as our ‘go to’ neutral, think about adding in some camel and gray. They both work beautifully with black and also with each other.

Fall Trend #2: Add a Pop of Color or a Rich Opulent Print to Those Neutrals. All three of the above-mentioned neutrals can handle a pop of color – whether purple, green, red or whatever. Pick one of ‘your’ colors and add it into the mix. Similarly, a rich brocade or metallic print accent will add depth and texture to a simple basic.

Fall Trend #3: Leopard Spots. Animal prints have been a long-time staple, but the leopard is taking the lead this year. It’s fun to wear leopard spots – on your handbag, or perhaps your shoes or a belt. Just remember to not overdo it – a little goes a long way.

Fall Trend #4: Fur and Feathers. Whether your fur is faux or real, you’ll be seeing it and feathers everywhere as accents. They are playful and available at all price points. Since a fur coat isn’t a necessity in our area to keep warm, think about incorporating it into a vest or handbag or some other accessory.

Fall Trend #5: Classic Shapes with Sharp Tailoring. This might be the time to reevaluate your wardrobe basics and replace those that are worn or damaged, or perhaps add in some new ones. You should find lots of choices now, so take advantage of the supply and stock up. (If you find this task daunting, a wardrobe consultant can help with the evaluation and shopping.)

Fall Trend #6: Longer, Fuller Skirts. For those who haven’t enjoyed the trend of shorter skirts, take heart. Now you should be able to find those longer skirts you’ve been waiting for. Again, take advantage of the supply and replenish your wardrobe while you can before the ‘fashion gods’ rule them gone.

When you’re incorporating trends into your wardrobe, buy quality for those items that you consider essential to your wardrobe going forward. Spend less on those items that you know you’ll only want to enjoy while they’re the current ‘hot thing.’
