loving my new hugh hefner slippers...

i have been wanting my very own pair of hugh hefner like slippers for quite some time now...wasn't sure what i wanted...stripes?  solid color?  leopard print (my neutral)...decisions decisions...what i did know...was that when i saw them...i would know...

so while shopping at nordstrom's last week...my search ended...so loving my new hugh hefner slippers...especially the unexpected gold toe...les sigh...today was their first day out...

to me...this has got to be one of THE best collaborations...ever!  and while these shoes have been in existence for quite some time...i am still amazed when i bring them up...and people haven't heard...just the other day...i was wearing one of my pairs...for many many hours...and some of the women remarked "how can you stand in those all day"...and i said..."because of nike air..."  all i got were blank stares...so i am now sharing with all of you...some may already know...but for those that don't...

you need to know!  the collaboration started when cole haan shoes were made with the comfort of nike shoes...cole haan has every heel height...with this hidden nike air technology...pure genius...

so next time you are shopping for some "high-heeled" shoes...check out all the wonderful styles that cole haan offers...and then look for the "nike air"...i have several pairs in different heights...and i tell you...i feel like i am walking on pillows...so so comfortable...the nike air padding is concealed inside the platform portion of the shoe under the ball of the foot and in the heels...and while i show a pic of a cute summer sandal...it doesn't stop there...you can find cole haan nike air in dressy shoes too...

how to freshen up that suit...

while it is not as common as it used to be...believe it or not...there are still women that do wear suits to work...as in several of my clients...so if you are in the elite group...i realize that wearing that same old suit...can get old...but with the hefty price tags...it's not likely that these are items that you continue to buy over and over...

so what needs to happen...is to work with what you've got...while the suit on its own can be...shall we say...yawn...boring...there are some easy ways to freshen up the look...and "revive" those suits you are wearing...

if you've been wearing a basic button down shirt with your suits...how about opting for a nice bright blouse?  if you like ruffles...this is a great accent to an otherwise boring blouse...the combination of the ruffles & color cascading down the suit jacket will instantly pump up the volume...want to be a bit more daring?  go for a fun print...when looking for new blouses to add...think color...texture...detail...the smallest of which could make a huge impact...

add in some fun accessories...if you have been wearing your standard pearls or chain necklace...try adding one with a bolt of color...or adding several necklaces together to create new interest...add a fun brooch to the jacket...no one will notice your basic suit anymore...

belts are another way to update or freshen up an old suit...go for a belt that matches for a conservative approach or add some fun with one in a contrasting color...not only does this bring a great new detail to your suit...but it will instantly cinch in that waist for a flattering silhouette...

wearing white...

a great look for the spring/summer season is wearing your whites...now while some will shy away from an all white look...the look is fresh...crisp...and perfect for this time of year...

for an all over white look...layering is the way to go...for an easy way to pull it off...take a high neck, boxy sheer white top...over a scoop white tank top...nicely fitted...pair with your favorite white jeans or capri's...and you've got a great warm day outfit...

want to go a bit dressier?  create a column of white with a flowy white pant with a crocheted linen top...or add a little lace...

of course...the lwd (little white dress) is always a plus...no frill...no fuss...but oh so put together...this short one is adorable...if you don't want short...go for a cute maxi...even a white maxi skirt paired with a white tank top will have the same appeal...

a crisp white jacket is a nice addition as well...i recently dragged out of my closet...a beautiful almost braided like leather jacket in a pearl white...a perfect addition for my spring/summer outfits...you also can add a white jean jacket...cardigan...these will all be nice additions for your sun dresses and spring/summer colors...

give your brown and black belts a rest this season...opt for a nice white belt...it's perfect worn over your tunic top or sundresses...

add another bangle to your stack...

there is something about arm candy that appeals to me...sure you can wear a bangle "solo"...but how much more dramatic a statement can you make by adding another bangle to your stack...the great thing...is you can really have your personality shine through...you may be classic...or elegant...perhaps a bit eclectic...are you all about color?  do you prefer to mix your metals?

have fun with your arm candy...here are some great examples of some fabulous combinations...as you can see...whether you go for several...or just a few...mixing & matching can be a fun exercise...

choosing necklaces for necklines...

i came across this lovely tutorial on pinterest...great little tidbit to have for yourself...if you ever get stuck on a certain neckline...and aren't sure what type of necklace to wear...this should get you going...

of course this isn't the "bible" on necklaces for necklines...feel free to experiment...but if you are in a bind...just click on the pic below to enlarge...

how to incorporate new trends via a scarf...

an easy way to add a new trend to your already fabulous style...perhaps a trend that you like...but want to step into lightly...is via a scarf...a scarf to begin with...is already a great way to add style to an outfit...for the spring/summer season...you want to think about light weight scarves...such as in linen, cotton, silk or a blend of these...

say for example you are loving that pastels are big this season (which they are...along with bold bright colors) but you aren't really keen on getting big pieces in pastel...finding a scarf in your favorite pastel color is all you need...add it to your neutrals...your plain white tees...or mix it in with some brights...and you have just incorporated a new trend in your wardrobe...without going all out...

the same would work in a bold color...you don't need to buy a whole pant suit in a bold color (unless of course that is your style)...just find that perfect bold color in a scarf...

trunk show coming to the bay area...

today i spent the afternoon with my good friend adena...going over inventory for our upcoming accessories trunk show...can i just say...what a fun afternoon...i mean what can be better then working with beautiful baubles, handbags & scarves...and thinking about how to set it all up...oh and then admiring all the intricate work of each designer...

if you have been a long time reader...one thing you probably picked up on...is my love for shoes...will i ever have enough?  most likely no...because there will always be another that is just that much different from what i already own...that will warrant the need to "have"...

that being said...it is very very rare that i come across a shoe that i definitely know that i will not want to own it...no matter the price...or the designer...with all the fashion magazines i go through each month...one ad...just has me baffled...

may i present to you...the fur shoe...uh yeah...no thank you...anyone out there interested in owning this shoe?  i just don't get it...but thought i would share with all of you...there is this pump...

now while i can usually appreciate all fashion...whether it be my style or not...these...well...i just don't get...

my first spring purchase...

the minute i saw this handbag...i knew i needed wanted to have it...but i didn't get it right away...and when i finally went to purchase it...they had every color but this luscious pink...which is called "zinnia"...the nordstrom sales woman...checked the inventory...and said...yes...there was one left...in the hawaii store...the call was made...and the hawaii sales person...hunted and hunted...to no avail...but...there was a warehouse to check...

nope..every color but "zinnia"...

of course...as with anything...once that item is unattainable...the more it is wanted...right?  and although the beautiful orange or the yellow was a fabulous 2nd choice...i thought i would wait...perhaps someone would return one...

as i waited...the chances seemed pretty slim...by this time...i had called every department store & website...the michael kors stores & website...no luck...

until i did an ebay search...and there it was...my beautiful handbag in the color "zinnia"...and it arrived...on the first day of spring...

how to find the right baubles...

when it comes to jewelry...there is so much to choose from...how do you know what is right for you?  first and foremost...of course...you gotta love it!  right?  seems simple enough...but i've had some clients absolutely love a piece...and then wonder how they would incorporate it into their current wardrobe...

i once had a designer tell me the same about furniture...if you love the piece...it will fit into your house...especially if you keep buying pieces you love...i truly believe that way of thinking...for if you love it...you will wear it...

but for those that need some guidance...here are two other things to consider...color and proportion...for example...if you buy higher end costume jewelry that mirrors your coloring...you have made a wise investment...

about color...if your coloring is warm...look for warm metals and warmer shades of stones, gemstones or colored beads...if your coloring is cool...go for cooler shades...and these will be pieces that are complimentary to you...

about proportion:  look at the scale of your features and bone structure to understand your proportion...if you are large boned...chances are that the larger pieces of jewelry will work well for you...if you have small facial features...the smaller and more delicate pieces will work well for you...and if you have a mix of large and small features...you will be able to mix the larger & smaller pieces together...and if you have larger features...but prefer delicate pieces...the way to work that in is to wear several delicate pieces together...try clustering multiple layers of them to create a bigger impact...

jewelry pieces tend to stay with us longer then our clothing pieces do...be sure the ones you collect are pieces that you look forward to wearing...if you love it...chances are you'll wear it and enjoy it!

kitten heels...

while putting together the trends for spring 2013...i decided to stop and take a peruse through my closet for one of the items on the list...kitten heels...now don't get me wrong...i love my heels...but once in a while...a kitten heel is a nice touch...

now granted...my shoe selection is pretty vast...as i love shoes!  so i was pleased that i could "shop in my closet" to find that i've got a nice selection for the upcoming season...

ladies...the kitten heel is back...and the best part?  you can wear this low-heeled pointy-toed pump with your slouchy shorts or rolled up jeans...want to go dressy?  pair them with your new leather sheath dress or skirt...

when one is not enough...

one of my very dear friends...and a very devoted reader of this blog...sent me this pic last week...while she was in town a few weeks ago...visiting from oregon...we decided to do a little shopping after our lunch...seems the normal thing to do...right?  

we got on the subject of flats...and i of course mentioned hugh hefner slippers...and she of course knew exactly what i was talking about...as i had recently written a blog post titled:  slippers hugh hefner style...

we spotted a great pair...that i forced asked nicely for her to try on...while they were simply adorable on her...they weren't comfy enough...but i told her...that she needed to keep looking...as that was a great look for her...

so back to last week...linda sends me this pic via text...with the following message...

"new purchase - thanks for the tips...and yes - i did need both pairs"

i would have to agree...good job linda!  both will be a great addition to your spring wardrobe...pattern is always a good way to go for a little fun in your step...
