palazzo pants...

the ultimate party pants...palazzo pants became popular in the 1930's...when they were also known as beach pajamas and worn with a loose top over a swimsuit...they have a comfortable feel that can be casual or dressy...depending on fabric and accessories...

the best part...they feel like you are wearing your pajama's...but you don't look like you are wearing pajama's...so stylish and chic...

in metallic silk with a cashmere sweater and a scarf...the look is cool...understated evening...in cotton or linen with a t-shirt and a pair of sandals...it's pure summer...

how do you wear your palazzo pants?

split personalities...

fabric will often reveal the personality of a piece...classic shapes assume completely different characters when they're made from different fabrics...when it's worked in sequins...an unassuming...easy-to-care-for white cotton t-shirt (or grey tank top as in my pics) becomes dazzling...yet fragile...

some would say that sequins are most likely limited to evenings...i think...it is a great way to dress up a pair of jeans...combining the unexpected is what personal style is all about...

what makes a classic a classic?

oxford button-down shirts, levi's jeans, white cotton t-shirts, baseball caps, bomber jackets, little black dresses, striped french sailor shirts, a string of pearls, navy blazers, trench coats, gold hoop earrings, cartier tank watches, ray ban sunglasses, cashmere cardigans, loafers...

it's an old friend with a new twist...a clunkier heel, perhaps? an animal-print pattern? it doesn't matter - whatever makes you kick up your heels...

you buy it for what it's always been: a familiar shape that seems to weather time and is always just a comfortable reach away in your closet...
you buy it for what it lets you be: yourself...

a classic classic? it is dependable, time-less, and tamper-proof...yet open to reinterpretation...
