fashion bloggers helping japan...

it has been almost a week since the devastation hit japan...tsunami...earthquake...radiation...for me...it was that feeling of helplessness...same feeling i had when 9.11 happened...and even though i was far enough removed from it...i wasn't...for 9.11...i lost many friends...clients on that devastating day...for japan...although i had friends that were there...i know now they are safe...

so where does that leave us? is it because we are so far removed...that we just keep going on with life? in one respect...we need to...but on a human level...having compassion for another human being...whether they are in our backyard or not...seems the right thing to do...

and for this...i felt prompted to write this post...nothing about fashion...nothing about trends...just about people...people in need...people desperately needing our help...the thing with the devastation in japan...it is not something that can be fixed in a day...a week...a month...this will take years and years...and although we are safely tucked away in our every day lives...we cannot forget what the poor people in japan are going through...

wendy brandes...a jewelry designer...who i admire tremendously...wrote it far better then i ever could...in her march 17th post...i hope that you click on over and read it...

fashion bloggers are uniting...to help in any way we can...to realize that although we love fashion...we love the business...sometimes...there are just more important things to discuss...and today...for me...it is all about japan...

my thoughts and prayers are with the people of japan every day...as much as they need our prayers...they need supplies...food...shelter...etc...if you are able to help...click here...which will take you to a great list of links to charity and news sources that wendy brandes put together...

fellow fashion bloggers: wendy has also given permission for us to use this image...so if you feel in your heart...to share...and encourage others to get involved in any way that they can...

jimmy choo & cheese cookies...

last week i attended a lovely soiree at saks fifth avenue..."wine, women and shoes" the event title alone got my attention...the event was to feature the new choo 24:7 collection by jimmy choo...

this was no ordinary shopping experience...

first...and foremost...some of the proceeds of the sale were going to benefit children of shelters...

second...i would be surrounded by lovely shoes...

third... i would discover the fine art of wine and shoe pairing with the “shoemmeliers” from wine, women & shoes...

sounds like a win win win...no?

so...did i learn how the sauvignon blanc is paired with jimmy choo sling-backs? or why pinot gris is the perfect match for jimmy choo patent platforms? uh...no...not really...i was in utter awe of the shoes...

here are the clever little "cheese" cookies that made me swoon...

i met chad and john...their primary job was to walk around the room holding up silver trays of beautiful jimmy choo's...yes...i cannot tell a lie...

a charity event is not complete without a raffle or some sort of give-away...so there was this little bowl of keys...$20 got you one key...and of course...the proceeds go to charity...win win! there was one key...that would unlock the box...to...your very own pair of jimmy choo's...

i scoped the room...finding my two favorite pairs...here they are in all their glory...

and...

but...alas...my key did not work...and i left empty handed...with only thoughts of my two favorite jimmy choo's...and a tummy full of "cheese" cookies...

and a fun nite...meeting some lovely "jimmy choo loving women"

charity designer jean event for tiana foundation...

march 18, 2002, tiana rose velez was born...three hours later, she was delivered back to her Creator...out of despair...hope was born...
about the tiana foundation:
my friends rhonda & jason started the tiana foundation to help parents who have lost children to neonatal or early infant death...
here is there story...
On March 18, 2002 I went into labor with my second daughter, Tiana Rose Velez. As I began my labor, the doctors discovered that Tiana's heart was not pumping correctly and I was taken in for an emergency C-Section, hoping that once she was delivered, they could help her heart condition and save her. 2 1/2 hours after delivery, Tiana passed away. It has been an extremely difficult time for us. Because of our love for Tiana and our belief that she was sent here for a reason, my husband and I want to help others that are experiencing the deep grief and loss of a child. We have dreams for our children even before they are born and in an instant our dreams are shattered.
We remember that day as if it were yesterday. If it had not been for a very supportive family and wonderful friends, it would have been the loneliest and most stressful time in our lives. We started The Tiana Foundation to help parents during this difficult time. We believe that every child should have a gravestone. That is why we want to help parents who can't afford to memorialize their child who were here such a short time and left a lasting impression upon their hearts.

The Tiana Foundation is partnered with California Monumental in San Jose California. When a child passes away, the local hospital social worker or private party contacts us. The foundation will contact California Monumental to request a voucher. At this time we are able to distribute between $150-$300 per family (depending upon the need). The voucher will then be redeemable upon the family's order for their child's memorial marker.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIVE IN THE AREA TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A VOUCHER.
If you live outside the Bay Area or California, we will work with either California Monumental or a monumental in your area to ensure that you receive a memorial marker for your child.
It is the hope of The Tiana Foundation that we will be able to provide greater financial assistance as "From The Heart Bath & Body" prospers and contributions are received.
