the master cleanse...

the other day i was reading a rather thought provoking article "the master cleanse" by annette tapert in the wall street journal...the top caption caught my attention...

If you lost your entire wardrobe, how would you rebuild it? Annette Tapert ponders the minimalist's ultimate fantasy with designers and style arbiters

we have all had the occasional blurting of "i have nothing to wear" while staring into a closet jam packed with clothes...ok...most of us have...if we are really honest...but for me that changed...when i started taking a serious look at my closet...and getting rid of the items that i knew i didn't wear...and most likely wouldn't wear...that is when you start looking at your clothes differently...loving the pieces that are in your closet...

and then there are the few people that i've met...when they hear what it is i do...have this vision that hiring me is going to be some real life episode of "what not to wear"...where i will come in...throw every piece of clothing out that they own...(for the record...that has never happened...and most likely won't...)

this article however made me think about...a "what if" situation...what if..for whatever reason...my clothes were all gone? how would i start rebuilding my clothing? would i buy a lot of what i had before? would i stick to a more classic approach? what would be the first ten pieces that i buy?

this article has several designers answering some of these very questions...

do you think that you would shop differently to replace your current items?

men's corner: statement shoes...

i read an interesting article this morning in the wall street journal..."spring shoes for men step brightly"...apparently...there are a lot of crazy...err...different options coming out this spring...my question is...who will take the bait? (do go to the article and watch the slide show to see all the designs...)

the shoe listed below...i can think of maybe one of my men clients who might consider these...and that is a HUGE "might"...as for the rest of my clients...although i am always trying to get them to step out of the box a little...you know...find their own personal style...but shoes that have metal spikes spurting out of them...not so much...christian louboutin or not...(watch the video to see these...)

while i love the idea of giving men more options...personally...i may be wrong...but i don't see this as a trend that will take off...the article compared the shoes to that of the shoe craze from "sex and the city"...women...are always more adventurous...shall i say? with trying out new trends...

so what say you men? am i off my rocker? would you try these out? and to the ladies...would you buy these for your significant other? would love to hear your thoughts!

what does the designer label mean to you?

this morning i read a very interesting article in the wall street journal entitled "how can jeans cost $300?"...truth be told...i have never spent $300 on a pair of jeans...but...if i tried on a pair of jeans that fit unbelievably perfect...would i then spend $300 on them? tough question...because for me...it is all about the fit...it doesn't matter the price or the brand...if the fit is poor...the jeans won't look good...no matter what name is on them...

this really boils down to any garment...i remember years ago...watching a show...i have tried to research to find it...but i honestly cannot remember the name of the show...who was on it...all i remember is that the premise of the show...some people that were trying to get the coveted spot of an internship...

the one scene that i so vividly remember...all the contestants were in a room...and the head person in charge...decided to critique them on what they were wearing...one girl in particular...who would constantly boast of the "labels" she wore...thought she was a shoe-in to be chosen...as her outfit that day was gucci...again...nothing wrong with gucci...i wouldn't mind sporting some fabulous gucci pieces...

but i digress...

one girl was there...she was a bit larger then the other girls...didn't have a lot of money...but she was chosen...she looked fabulous...and the key? her clothing fit her so well...and so perfectly for her body...it was a no brainer...no well known labels was she sporting that day...

moral of the story...it doesn't matter what you spend...what matters...is the fit...

curious as to what your go-to brand is...and why?

the signs all point to orange...

so this morning i saw this cute little article in the wsj "classics with a twist" which i posted to my fabulous finds facebook page...(feel free to follow me)...

the article line that caught my eye was "a splash of citrus, a flash of orange to brighten everyday essentials"...which got me to thinking...that i should probably pull out my little orange handbag that i got years and years ago...it truly is such a happy color...don't you think?

fast forward about 6 hours...i showed up at my parents house...and there on the kitchen counter...be still my beating heart...peeps! and orange ones! apparently...my mom had bought them for me (gotta love her) and forgot to give them to me at easter...now you know about my love for peeps in color...but i had never seen them in orange...aren't they the cutest?

so all signs are pointing to orange...what do you think that means?

say it isn't so...

my shoes tend to be opposite extremes...i am either wearing stilettos...or flats...no in between...although that probably wouldn't be a bad idea...it is just not what i gravitate towards...

so yesterday...i read an article in the wall street journal...letting me know that kitten heels are making a comeback...and well...stilettos - are so two years ago...

i don't know how i feel about that...i noticed first lady michelle obama wearing low heels this last week...looking quite fabulous i might add...and i didn't think much of it...since she tends to wear lower heels...but then i started thinking back on some of the runway shows...and yes...lower heels were shown...

here is the thing...i always say...wear what makes you feel good...don't wear something because it is in style for the moment...we all know...trends come and go...heels come and go...however...this stiletto wearing girl...will continue on...in her fabulous stilettos...

how about you? are you thrilled that heels are getting lower?

an unscientific survey of the precipitous rise, and sudden decline, in high-end designer heel heights...
