the inspiration pic...

one thing i always tell my clients...and friends...when you see a pic of an outfit you love...save it...it can always be re-created...first and foremost to suit your proportions...and coloring...and of course...within your budget...

this is not something i just tell people to do...but i make it a practice myself...so here is an example...it has been about 3 or 4 weeks now that i have been on pinterest...i know...a little late in the game...but...it was my time...and i have to say...it has been fun...one of my boards is "my personal style"...self explanatory...and here was one of the pics i pinned in this category...

i already had a leather jacket...i just needed the dress...so stay tuned...as tomorrow...i will do the big reveal of my version of this outfit...styled perfectly for me...

in the mean time...if you'd like to take a peak at my boards on pinterest...feel free to take a look at pinterest.com/stylingfabulous...or better yet...follow me!

you had me at hello: burberry bliss...

as i was flipping through the vogue february issue...i came across this lovely leather jacket...one can never have enough leather jackets...so many colors to choose from...this caught my attention...mostly because of the detail...my prerequisites on most of my purchases...does it have texture? look at those sleeves! does it have detail? why yes...so much so...that this beautiful leather jacket by burberry prorsum had me at hello from the first second i laid eyes on it...don't you just love how it's paired with a lovely bold silk dress? such a great combination of hard & soft...

the leather jacket...

bikers wear it for protection...others are content to soak up its attitude without straddling a motorcycle...no matter how refined the design...in black the leather jacket signals rebellion...in brown...it is friendlier and reminiscent of the bomber jackets worn by aviators in both world wars...but either way...leather only gets better with age...so choose a classic cut you'll want to grow old with...

and seriously...why stop at black or brown?

this lovely number is part of the jana kos winter 2010 collection...in a scrumptious olive color...and soft like butter lamb leather...(and yes...YOU can order it through me!)

men's corner: the schlumpy jacket...

there is nothing modern or "cool" about a leather jacket that fits like a rain poncho...really...any jacket...the same rules apply for men as they do for women...

fit fit fit...makes a difference...

when trying on a new leather jacket...keep going down a size until you can’t get it on...then buy the next size up...it should feel snug as a wetsuit but will take your body’s shape over time...the coolest style right now? the bomber you see here...

for a suit jacket fit...try on as many jackets as it takes for you to find the right one...there are many options out there...which means...lots to choose from...

coat length - general rule is for the jacket to just cover your entire seat...the hem of the jacket should end near the tip of your thumb when your arm is relaxed...

sleeves - should allow 1/2 inch of shirt to show at the wrist when the arm is relaxed...

armhole - should allow considerable range of motion...

shoulders - the shoulders are the base of the garment...if it doesn't fit you point to point...it's not the right jacket...

chest and waist - jacket should be easy to button...vents should lie flat...allow 3 to 5 inches of play between your body and the jacket's top button...

collar and neck - jacket collar should hug your neck about halfway up your shirt collar and lie smoothly across your upper back without any bubbling or rippling...
