the wide leg trouser...

the beautiful katharine hepburn truly knew how to wear men inspired clothing...and still look incredibly feminine and sexy...and she could pull off the wide leg trouser like no other...as i mentioned way back in august...i am still looking for a perfect new pair of wide leg trousers...such as these...but maybe at a tad bit of a lower price tag... =) the wide leg trouser truly is one of my favorite looks...it is comfortable...gives freedom of movement...and best of all...looks oh so glamourous...

when wearing wide leg trousers...try to keep your top fitted...to balance off the bulk and width on the bottom...

i prefer my wide leg trousers with cuffs...but whether they are cuffed or not...make sure that they are long...the wide leg trouser does not look good when too short...

if possible - stick to a flat front...pleats look good on very few...just sayin...

they look great in black, white, camel, grey or even pinstripe...try a pair...they are really quite fabulous...

you can't beat a white classic shirt...

think of marlene dietrich, katharine hepburn, marilyn monroe, jackie o, and audrey hepburn...all embraced the cool, crisp elegance of the classic white shirt and made it their own...today, fashion icons like sharon stone, uma thurman, gwyneth paltrow and angelina jolie continue to honor the timeless chic of the classic white shirt...

some favorite ways to wear a classic white shirt...

*with a pencil skirt and a pair of statement heels...

*with a pair of tailored pants, a wide belt, stilettos and an animal print scarf...

*under a navy blazer, dark jeans, a belt and fun loafers...

*loosely over a pair of capri pants and ballet flats...

*tucked into a pair of wide legged pants, skinny belt and brightly colored scarf...

*tucked into a pair of tuxedo pants, collar up, and black satin stilettos...

remember...if you don't like white against your face, make sure the jewelry or scarf you add at the neck is in your color...you can opt for a "white" shirt in "your white" to achieve the same classic look...

are you a fan of the classic white shirt?

personal style...

we have all seen her and gawked with admiration - and not a little envy...she needn't be beautiful, nor dressed in anything we couldn't imagine for ourselves...but her clothes are a brilliant orchestration of color and texture...fabric and fit...sensibility and style...and she wears them like a badge...they don't wear her...

maybe it's a color she's claimed as her signature...perhaps it's her panache at mixing the unexpected...she may even buy certain basics over and over...in varying textures, fabrics, and cuts...just different enough to keep things new...

chances are...her look is consistent: every time you see her...her style is unmistakably her own...her personal style is her personal uniform...

grace kelly

audrey hepburn

jackie o
her dark glasses symbolized her sense of fashion, her private nature, and the star status we inflicted on her...
also known for pillbox hats...

barbara bush
the essence of patrician style, her four strands of pearls stood for good breeding and a traditional, understated sense of fashion...

james dean
ever the rebel uniform, the leather jacket underscored his image as a misunderstood loner, a romantic antihero...

the turtleneck...

katharine hepburn understood turtlenecks...

the sleek, contemporary silhouette...the remarkable ability to define a jawline (as if she needed help in that department). the sophisticated simplicity of revealing so much by showing so little...

was it for warmth, protection, or simply style? who cares? it looked great...

cat burglars, skiers, and a number of men with goatees have also appreciated them, but less for their aesthetic properties than for their ability to camouflage, warm, and impute intellectual hipness...

everything about a turtleneck depends on how it fits and what it's made-of...big, bulky hand-knits are about homespun charm, borrowing from your boyfriend's closet, and warm, cozy weekends...especially when paired with jeans or leggings...a tight, ribbed turtleneck with a slim neck defines the body in a sexier way...lying smoothly under a suit jacket, it creates a tailored, sporty look...

in the end, the turtleneck's form is simplicity itself, whether it's at the center of attention or part of a layered ensemble...
